Installation date: July 2011
Location: North Wales
Property: Large 4/5 bedroom detached house, EPC rating G
Existing fuel: LPG
Existing Boiler type: Combi
This installation has been unusual in that the only suitable location for the unit was on an existing concrete plinth at the rear of the house, at the level of the first floor of the property. Due to restricted access the unit was placed into position with a crane.
The owner was eager to get the unit operational, as the Calor Gas had run out and they did not want to buy any more !
As there is no immediate need for the central heating to be connected only the hot domestic hot water part of the system is installed at present, the central heating is to be done in the autumn.
As the existing combi boiler had an integral small hot water tank it was necessary to install a 200 litre mains pressure hot water tank, with mains pressure water in and hot water out to the the domestic system, showers, hot water taps, washing machine etc. The tank, a Huch SSH-200, has two coils fitted to transfer heat from the heat source to the cold water in the tank. Huch intend one coil to be used for solar heating and one for an existing gas or oil boiler but as there is only one heat source, the two coils were connected to maximise heat transfer surface area.
The owner is very impressed with the performance of the system, our boiler effortlessly heated 200 litres to 60 degrees centigrade, and easily keeps up with domestic demand.
In addition to the cost of our unit, the installation costs were as follows:
|
Huch Tank |
£794 |
|
10 metre PEX pipe |
£47.50 |
|
BSP/PEX pipe fittings |
£80 |
|

£79.99 |
|

|
Copper pipe and fittings |
£80 |
|
Potable water expansion vessel and fittings |
£40 |
|
Pipe insulation |

|

Projected costs for the central heating installation are:
|

|
Grundfos 15/50 pump x 2 |
158.98 |
|
BSP/PEX pipe fittings |

|

We were able to get discounts on the tank, pumps, PEX pipe and BSP/PEX fittings saving about 20% of the RRP costs listed above.
Please note these costs do not include plumber and electrician charges and also do not include the cost of the concrete plinth as there was already a suitable plinth in place.
Due to the property being in an area of outstanding natural beauty the owner had a block three sided shed constructed around the unit, rendered to match the property. This was done to minimise visual impact of the unit. A shed like this is not necssary for our unit so the cost is not included in the installation costs shown here.
Installation costs will vary depending on individual requirements so the costs shown above are only intended as a guide. But is does illustrate how much cheaper it is to install one of our units compared to other energy sources.
